Final Photography Installation

For the final installation project, my focus was on how excessive the safety laws at parks have become. Swings now have a harness, nylon ropes are used instead of steel bars, the ground is covered in 'mulch' for 'cushion impact' and tree stumps are forbidden on the premise of a park. While some may think these changes protect their children from injury, others may think they are too extreme and are preventing their children from having the fun that they had.
The statement I am making is that children now look as if they are strapped or locked into their fun activities.
I have taken a series of photos at a local park, and although I didn’t receive any comments I did get a lot of concerned looks. The doll is taped onto the equipment as an ironic way to 'promise' caretakers that their children will not get hurt. I have made the images slightly sepia to resemble the ‘olden days’ where everything was carefree and untroubled. I want people to question where the simplicity of life has gone.
